St. Luke’s Medical Center on Monday held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new hospital building in Quezon City.

This marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s redevelopment plan, an initiative to modernize and expand its facilities.

“This is essentially the first step towards what our board of trustees and the administrations promise our doctors who have graciously attended here today. The promise of having the best hospital not just in Quezon City but probably in Metro Manila and you know, surpassing St. Luke’s Global City,” St. Luke’s Medical Center president and chief executive Dr. Dennis Serrano said.

The 13-story building will house 80 percent of the hospital’s existing services with 140 nursing unit beds. It will be constructed on a limited footprint, occupying 10 percent of the total area despite its immense scale.

St. Luke’s said the strategic approach ensures minimal disruption to daily operations and patient care while maximizing available space.

Dr. Serrano said the building pays homage to the beginning of St. Luke’s in Quezon City. “We promise to make this the best, the most modern hospital, better than Global City and for sure it will be prioritized over what we are doing in Aseana, because Quezon City is the birth site of St. Luke’s. This where it all began, and we will pay homage to that,” he said.

Dr. Serrano said the new building aims to be the best and most modern hospital in the country. The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently accredited St. Luke’s Medical Center as the lead facility for medical tourism.

The new hospital building is expected to be completed by 2027. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies and will be designed to meet the highest patient comfort and safety standards.
