“Everyone has a stake in this. We are the primary stakeholders in this endeavor and share the responsibility for future generations,” he said.

Bautista noted that the DOTr has projects supporting the blue economy under the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028. The MIDP 2028 aims to enhance maritime sector resilience and foster sustainable growth, establishing systems to mitigate natural disasters and crises. It paves the way for economic progress and ocean preservation, benefiting the economy and environment.

Meanwhile, in support of the National Greening Program (NGP), Cebu Port Authority (CPA) officials and employees planted 5,000 mangrove propagules in Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu, alongside the Purok Bakhaw Women’s Organization.

Led by General Manager Kit Comendador, the activity underscores Cebu Port Authority’s commitment to environmental protection. Mangroves are essential for coastal ecosystems, serving as nurseries for marine life and natural barriers against erosion and storm tides. The initiative boosts biodiversity and strengthens coastal resilience against natural disasters.
