MANILA, Philippines — Malacanang on Wednesday confirmed the resignation of Alfredo Pascual as Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) effective Friday, August 2.
“President (Ferdinand) Marcos Jr. met with Secretary Pascual at Malacañan Palace to accept his resignation and acknowledge his invaluable service in guiding the restoration and transformation of the Philippine economy,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement.
It also noted that the President was “sorry to lose him” as a member of the Cabinet but respects Pascual’s decision to return to the private sector.
“The search for a successor will commence immediately to ensure a seamless transition and continuity in the Department’s initiatives,” the PCO said.
The Palace, however, did not mention who would be temporarily in-charge at the DTI pending the appointment of Pascual’s replacement.
