President Marcos congratulated Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo for clinching the gold medal in the men’s floor exercises on Saturday at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In a Facebook post, the President lauded the 24-year-old’s historic performance. Yulo becomes the first male athlete to win the gold medal for the Philippines in gymnastics and the second Filipino to achieve such feat after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who won in the Tokyo 2020 games.
“We’ve witnessed history as Carlos Yulo clinched the Philippines’ first ???????????????? medal in artistic gymnastics at the ???????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????????????????. I am confident that it will not be the last,” President Marcos said.
“Congratulations, Caloy! The entire country stands proud with you!” he added in his post with the gold medal, Philippine flag, and applause emojis.
Yulo has a chance to add another medal in his successful Paris 2024 journey as he is scheduled to compete in the men’s vault finals this Sunday, August 4, at 10:24 p.m. Philippine time.
