Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran has been the talk of the town with his gorgeous “Sinag” Barong, which was worn by Filipino athletes during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. With the design also receiving international acclaim, Shangri-La Plaza has set up an installation brandishing the designer’s patriotic craft.

Displayed at the mall’s east atrium, visitors can marvel at the installation up close, which includes five pieces of the iconic Barong together with several pieces of hanging cloth and bundled roses bearing the colors of the Philippine flag.

The design was inspired by the tattoos of the Pintados, ancient Filipino warriors who brandished several body tattoos symbolizing bravery and fierceness. With Libiran saying that he saw Filipino athletes as heroes, he made it a point to capture their bravery and resilience through the embroidered rays of the sun on the fine piña fabric of the Barong, while also emphasizing the rich culture of the country.

The installation was styled by event stylist Dave Sandoval and is available to view for free at the Shangri-La Plaza.
