PH Senators congratulate Carlos Yulo on Olympic gold win

The Senate congratulated gymnast Carlos Yulo for winning the Philippines’ first gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yulo bagged the gold medal in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise,  making him the second Filipino Olympic gold medalist after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won her medal in Tokyo in 2020.

On their respective Facebook pages, the senators praised Yulo as he also secured the country’s first Olympic gold in gymnastics.

“The whole nation is proud of you!” Senator Jinggoy Estrada said.

“Thank you very much for showing the skill and heart of a Filipino athlete,  Caloy! Long live you! Our nation honors you!” Senate Majority Leader  Francis Tolentino said. 

Meanwhile,  Senator Bong Go, who chairs the Senate Sports and Youth Committees, said Yulo’s win served as a challenge to the government to continue supporting Filipino athletes.

“Your journey from the playgrounds of Malate to the Olympic stadium in Paris is a true inspiration for every Filipino,” Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said.  “Along the way you have shown what sacrifice, commitment, and the  Filipino spirit can achieve.” 

Meanwhile, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri called Yulo a “golden boy” as he thanked the Filipino gymnast for showing “the world the heart of a Filipino  champion.”

“You are a shining example of what hard work and dedication can do!” Senator Pia Cayetano said.

Senators Aquilino Pimentel III, Nancy Binay, Senator JV Ejercito, Sherwin  Gatchalian, Pia Hontiveros, Loren Legarda, Imee Marcos, Grace Poe, and  Bong Revilla likewise congratulated Yulo in Facebook posts.

Meanwhile, Senator Joel Villanueva congratulated the Olympian as he shared a throwback photo with him.

Senator  Cynthia Villar said she had goosebumps as the Philippine National Anthem was played in the Olympics.

In his statement, Senator Robin Padilla congratulated Yulo and hoped other Filipino athletes also win gold in the 2024 Olympic Games.
