MANILA, Philippines — Two of 13 reclamation projects in Manila Bay have been allowed to proceed by the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA).
The reclamation projects are found in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), according to PRA assistant general manager for reclamation and regulation Joseph John Literal.
The PRA did not name the proponents of the two reclamation projects in Pasay that got the agency’s go-signal.
The reclamation projects will still have to undergo cumulative impact assessment by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), according to Literal.
“We will review the designs submitted by the proponents, if the reclamation projects will affect the coastlines and the communities,” he said.
Literal said the Pasay reclamation projects have complied with the PRA requirements such as feasibility studies, environmental certificate and clearance from the DENR as well as hydrodynamic and morphologic studies.
