VALENZUELA City officials led by Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian opened a newly constructed public elementary school and launched a mobile medical “Eskwelasuhan” caravan.

Gatchalian told The Manila Times via Viber that the opening of the Pio Carreon Elementary School coincided with the city’s first day of classes on August 5.

“This was also the right time we launched our very own “Eskwelasugan” (merging of school and health) mobile clinics designed for students in all the city’s public schools,” he said.

The new school has a total lot area of 2,788 square meters and has two four-story buildings, a playground and a covered court, among others, the city’s Public Information Office said.

“This marks the 43rd primary school in the city and an additional academic space for students residing in Barangay Mapulang Lupa, a solution to the overcrowding of classrooms due to the growing number of students,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the caravan will move around the city weekly to provide free medical and dental services to the public school students, Gatchalian said.

Each vehicle has an assigned doctor and dentist.

“Furthermore, some students may also receive free medicines and vitamins from the mobile pharmacy parked on their school grounds,” he said.
