MANILA, Philippines — A human fetus was found by a cleaner at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), airport police reported Wednesday.
An initial report from the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup) indicated that the fetus was discovered in the east departure restroom of NAIA Terminal 1 by the cleaner doing a routine garbage collection in female restrooms on Tuesday afternoon.
The Avsegroup’s report stated that the fetus was found in a blood-soaked tissue in a garbage bin inside one of the cubicles.
In response, the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) Airport Police Department (APD) and the MIAA Medical Team conducted an inspection of the area.
The MIAA medical team confirmed that wrapped in the blood-stained tissue was a one-month-old fetus.
Avsegroup personnel brought the fetus to NAIA Police Station 1 for appropriate action and disposition, while Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) were conducting forensic investigation.
Law enforcement is working to identify the mother for the filing of potential charges related to abortion, the Avsegroup said.
