A LAWMAKER on Friday lauded the adoption of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act which will provide up to P10,000 allowance for public school teachers.
“Public school teachers continue to face diverse challenges so this additional allowance will help in easing some of their burdens and worries as they fulfil their functions as educators,” Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco said.
He said the benefits provided by the new law aim to ease the educators’ financial burdens related to teaching supplies, learning materials, and other incidental expenses.
Tiangco said the teaching profession is not that easy as some people may think.
“Being a teacher is a difficult job so what we want is to expand the benefits they receive from the government to alleviate their concerns and really focus more on teaching students,” he explained.
Tiangco also emphasized that the allowances under this law will be extended to other public school personnel.
“Not only the teachers will benefit from this, but also guidance counselors, librarians, vocational instructors, as well as mobile teachers and those in Alternative Learning Systems) According to the law’s IRR, beneficiaries will receive an initial allowance of P5,000 for the 2024-2025 school year, which will henceforth be increased to P10,000 a year.
“This additional benefit for public school teachers underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the educators’ welfare. President Marcos has consistently outlined his policy goals to improve public education, and I fully support crafting meaningful legislation that expands the teachers’ benefits and ensures quality education for all Filipino students,” Tiangco said.
