More than 1,400 residents of Barobo, Surigao del Sur voted in favor of creating a new barangay in the municipality, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Out of the 2,574 registered voters in the town, the Comelec said a total of 1,434 or 55.71% of the residents voted yes to ratify the creation of Barangay Guinhalinan during the plebiscite conducted on August 10, pursuant to Republic Act 11986. A total of 14 or 0.54% voted no.
A total of 1,459 residents cast their vote or a voter turnout at 56.68%.
“In the interim, officials of the new Barangay Guinhalinan shall be appointed by the Barobo mayor, as follows: one Punong Barangay, seven Sangguniang Barangay members, one Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, seven Sangguniang Kabataan members, who shall serve until their successors shall have been duly elected and qualified,” the poll body said.—Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
