Having been colonized by Spain for over three centuries, we share many cultural characteristics with the Spaniards, from our religion and Hispanic family names to our manners, and even the beso beso way of greeting. Our love of Spanish food products is evident with numerous daily and special-occasion dishes served.
One is transported to the heart of Spain with a curated selection of Spanish delicacies, premium hams, fine wines, artisanal olives, decadent desserts, and specialty home items at Rustan’s “Casa Española” festival. The culture, cuisine, and lifestyle are front and center with this year’s lineup that includes interactive demos showcasing home items and premium Spanish food — from savory to sweet treats.
During the opening, guests made beelines for the various food products on display, particularly the Aire Sano jamones (ham) that comes complete with a large holding tray and specialty knife for the very reasonable price of P11,000. A definite bargain when one realizes that just the knife and tray already cost that amount in other stores. Some excited shoppers bought several legs of jamon not only to serve for the forthcoming holiday season, but to gift them to foodie friends as well.
Rica de Jesus explained, “We sold a lot of jamones at Casa Española not only because it’s the best white ham in Spain that comes from Teruel, but also because we had Luis Torrijo, the guapo cortador and director for international sales from @aire_sano @naturuelgourmet.”
“Some of the ladies wanted to know if he would be included in the purchase of each jamon,” she added with an impish grin. “Slicing and serving your own jamon is not as hard as you think it is — anyone can do it. It’s not only for special occasions or big parties but you can slice it fresh as you need it and want to consume it.”
This unique cultural and gastronomic celebration runs until Aug. 31 at Rustan’s Home, Makati.
