Police on Thursday filed complaints against five suspects in the killing of beauty pageant contestant Geneva Lopez and her Israeli boyfriend Yitshak Cohen.
“We actually filed the complaint for murder, two counts. That’s for the death of Yitshak Cohen and Geneva Lopez. And the complaint has been docketed already,” said Police Colonel Thomas Valmonte, legal division chief of the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
“And there are five respondents that are impleaded in the complaint,” he added.
Valmonte said the suspects are also facing allegations of conspiracy because they had a meeting where they supposedly planned the killing of the two victims.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos in July said five persons of interest in the killing of the couple are in police custody.
The PNP is looking at former policeman Michael Guiang as the “brains” in the killing. Police said Guiang mortgaged a property to Lopez but refused when the beauty contestant wanted to claim the land.
On July 6, authorities found the bodies of Lopez and Cohen in a quarry site in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Capas after being reported missing.
They were last seen on June 21 when they drove to Capas going to the property.
Autopsy reports showed that the couple died of gunshot wounds. Lopez had gunshot wounds at the back of her torso and her thigh while Cohen had gunshot wounds on his chest and near the armpit. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
