MANILA, Philippines — At least 26,000 Philippine National Police (PNP) and military personnel have expired licenses to own and possess firearms.
This prompted a reminder from the PNP’s Civil Security Group (CSG) to immediately settle the status of their gun licenses as they have been exempted from undergoing drug tests and psychological and psychiatric examination when securing LTOPF.
CSG data showed around 11,800 police officers and 14,400 military personnel have yet to renew their LTOPF as of August.
The number of expired firearms registration totaled 54,700, with 25,100 from the police and 29,600 from the military.
With the new policy instituted by PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, the CSG said there is no reason for police officers and personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines not to renew their gun licenses.
“Malaking tulong na ito na na-eexempt kasi umiksi ‘yung procedure (It is a big help to be exempt because it shortens the procedure),” CSG spokesperson Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano told reporters in an interview yesterday.
A common reason for police and military gun owners is they could not immediately renew their firearm licenses as they are always on duty.
Gultiano warned PNP personnel they could face administrative cases if they fail to renew their firearm licenses.
