Arthaland is proud to announce that 10 outstanding and promising students at the College of Architecture (COA) of the National University Manila (NU) are this year’s graduates of the Arthaland Masterclass (Masterclass).
Formerly known as the Professional Green Building Training Program, the Masterclass is an intensive six-week program designed for aspiring green building professionals. It offers hands-on experience in sustainable project work guided by Arthaland’s sustainability experts.
The graduates gained valuable insights into project design, construction, and operation phases using Arthaland’s multi-certified green and healthy residential and office developments as the training ground for a comprehensive application of sustainable concepts.
The students were able to pair sustainability theories with practical project applications, and this integration allowed them to understand how sustainability principles cut across the building lifecycle.
LinkedIn research in 2023 revealed that only 1 in 8 workers globally possess the skills needed for the green transition; by gender, it’s one in six for men and only one in ten for women. To address this disparity, 7 out of the 10 graduates of the Arthaland Masterclass this year are women.
The three women who participated last year have since joined the workforce in green building careers, demonstrating the program’s success.
Today, Mikka Dalit is an Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) Expert and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate.
Jomabel Baguio, last year’s scholarship awardee, and Almira Fabay are practicing as green building professionals at a sustainability consultancy firm in the country.
Cian Malimban and Jomarie Deplomo, on the other hand, share and apply their acquired knowledge as practicing junior designers in an architectural firm.
“Our Masterclass aims to bridge the green skills gap between the academe and professional practice, enhancing the participation of women in green jobs to foster inclusivity and boost sustainable development in the country,” said Mr. Oliver Chan, Arthaland’s Chief Sustainability Officer.
“The demand for talent with green skills is ever increasing, and I’m delighted to report that our Masterclass program, which had 5 graduates last year, is also growing to meet those needs.”
Arthaland has also increased the number of scholarships from one last year to five this year, recognizing the importance of supporting more students in their academic and professional journeys.
On August 14, 2024, at the Arthaland Century Pacific Tower in BGC, Taguig, three exceptional students received full academic scholarships for their final year in college, while two graduating students received credentialing scholarships for EDGE Expert.
By supporting these future green leaders, Arthaland is investing in their futures and contributing to the broader goal of promoting environmentally responsible practices in the industry.
“Congratulations to our 10 future green building leaders! May their work accelerate sustainable developments across the country and their voice resonate as a powerful inspiration to the next generation of green building professionals,” said Ar. Kristina Samantha Pobre, Head of Sustainability in Arthaland.
