President Ferdinand Marcos named former Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Alexander Lopez as the spokesman for the National Maritime Council (NMC).
NMC is a body created to enhance maritime security and domain awareness amid growing tensions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Lopez, a former military officer and Philippine Military Academy graduate, will address issues surrounding the WPS.
He previously served as commander of the Western Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and held various key roles in the military and energy sectors.
The NMC was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 57 signed by President Marcos on March 25, 2024 to strengthen the Philippines’ maritime security.
