SEN. Bong Go reaffirmed his commitment to promoting the welfare of barangay (village) leaders, saying they help improve public service delivery.
The senator on August 17 joined barangay officials from various regions during the Liga ng mga Barangay-National Congress Cluster II in Pasay City.
He said that barangay leaders help promote the welfare of Filipinos, “making them invaluable partners in improving public service delivery in communities.”
Describing them as “superstars in their own right,” Go lauded their dedication to enhancing governance and community welfare.
“You are the communities’ first responders. Your role as barangay officials is very important because you bring the government to the grassroots level,” he said in Filipino.
“From breakfast up to even midnight, you interact with your constituents. You are at the frontline in bringing government service [to the people],” he said.
Go noted that throughout his years with former Davao City mayor and president Rodrigo Duterte, he “constantly interacted with barangay officials to help them serve their constituents.”
“That’s why I know the job of a barangay captain,” the senator said.
To promote the welfare of barangay officials, Go filed Senate Bill (SB) 197 or the Magna Carta for Barangays.
He also filed SB 427, which aims to provide allowances and benefits to barangay health workers.
He co-authored Republic Act 11768, which provides monthly honorariums and other benefits to Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) leaders and earmarks 10 percent of barangay funds for youth development programs.
