In a rather disappointing turn of events, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros said on Monday that embattled Bamban, Mayor Alice Guo has departed the Philippines via Malaysia.
Hontiveros broke the news via a Facebook status update with attached documents showing that Guo traveled outside the country via Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
“BREAKING NEWS! Si Alice Guo o Guo Hua Ping ay nakaalis na ng Pilipinas (Alice Guo or Guo Hua Ping already left the Philippines)!,” Hontiveros wrote on her official Facebook page along with red light and angry emojis.
The Senate has a standing warrant of arrest on Guo after she was cited for contempt over her repeated failures to attend public hearings on various charges leveled against her in connection with the banned Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs).
Guo, who was unmasked by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) as a Chinese national that assumed a Filipino identity, was also stripped of her position as mayor recently by the Office of the Ombudsman.
