MANILA, Philippines — A new low pressure area (LPA) was spotted off extreme Northern Luzon but it would unlikely affect the country, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.
Weather specialist Rhea Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was estimated at 1,030 kilometers of the region.
Although it was not clear as to when it would stay inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression, according to Pagasa’s 5 a.m. advisory.
It said that the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is affecting areas in Northern Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the localized thunderstorms would be bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.
