Some members of the House of Representatives are planning to file an impeachment complaint against her, Vice President Sara Duterte said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after the Senate Committee on Finance endorsed the Office of the Vice President’s proposed P2.037-billion budget for 2025 to the plenary, Sara said she was waiting for the House members’ next move.

“Pinag-uusapan nila kahit na i-deny nila. Pinaguusapan ng members ng House of Representatives. Kasi meron pa naman kaming mga kaibigan diyan sa loob eh na hindi lang nagsasalita dahil takot daw sila. So sinasabi nila it’s openly discussed ‘yung impeachment,” Sara said.

(They talk about it even if they deny it. This is being discussed by members of the House of Representatives. We still have friends there who just don’t talk because they are afraid, but they say the impeachment is openly discussed.)

Duterte said certain House members wanted “to project the family as corrupt, as criminals, as walang kuwentang mga tao kung di para sa pansarili lang nila (useless people who only do things for themselves).”

“Sinabi ko na dati, we are a threat to the perpetuation in power of people na interesado maging, sabihin na nating, prime minister kung matuloy ‘yung niluluto nilang Cha-cha o president kung hindi maluto ‘yung Cha-cha nila,” she added.

(I’ve said this before that we are a threat to the perpetuation in power of people who are interested in being prime minister if their Cha-cha is successful or president if their Cha-cha is not successful.)

GMA News Online sought for the comment of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and will update this story once he responds.

In November 2023, House Deputy Majority Leader and ACT-CIS party-list representative Erwin Tulfo denied that members of the House were talking about the filing an impeachment complaint against the Vice President.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had said that Sara did not deserve to be impeached amid the claim of a lawmaker that some members of the House of Representatives were talking about it.

Sara said she was not bothered by the impeachment rumors.

She said she initially did not plan to run for vice president.

Sara also explained that she did not regret running for the post.

“I am not all bothered. I am bothered na gusto nilang i-frustrate ang pinili ng mga tao na maging [that they want to frustrate whom the people chose to be the] Vice President all because of power and politics,” Sara said.

Sara said that at present she had no plans to run for the presidency in the 2028 national elections.

“Dapat mag-plano for 2028 sa 2027 at fourth quarter of 2026… Wala akong planong ganyan,” she said.

(We should plan for 2028 in 2027 and the fourth quarter of 2026. I have no plans to run for president.) —NB, GMA Integrated News
