At least 10 people were hurt in a collision between a dump truck and an L300 van on the northbound lane of C5 Road in Libis, Quezon City early Wednesday morning.
Responders had a hard time getting the passengers out of the van, which was crushed due to the incident. The passengers were brought to the hospital as some of them suffered from fractures.
“Medyo nahirapan tayo sa harap kasi medyo matindi ang tama niya tapos matindi ang pagkaiipit niya,” said Senior Fire Officer 3 Bill Astudillo, team leader of the Bureau Fire Protection – Quezon City South Special Rescue Force, in James Agustin’s report on Unang Balita.
(We had a hard time removing the passengers in the front because the van was crushed by the impact.)
“Sa likod naman, halos may fracture din ang iba. Tatlo yata doon yung may fracture na naipit. So nahirapan lang tayo para maalalayan natin sila nang maigi na hindi na sila masaktan pa,” he added.
(The backseat passengers had fractures. I think there were three people there with fractures. We had to be very careful in getting them out of the van to avoid causing more injury.)
According to the truck driver, he collided with the van after he tried to avoid a motorcycle. He said he was driving at a regular speed.
“Iniwasan ko si motor. Ngayon, si L300 sakto namang padating siya (I avoided a motorcycle. The L300 van came at the same time),” the truck driver said.
The L300 van was crushed and turned on its side. Meanwhile, the dump truck also turned on its sand and some of the sand it was carrying scattered on the road.
Traffic in the area became heavy as motorists could not use two of the four lanes.
A tow truck from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) tried to remove the van three times but failed.
Responders also have to shovel the sand back to the truck before removing the vehicle. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
