FORMER Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson on Wednesday announced that he will seek a Senate seat in next year’s midterm elections.
He claimed that his candidacy was endorsed by former president Rodrigo Duterte.
“It’s an honor to be endorsed by [former] president Rodrigo Duterte. I’m so thankful because he didn’t forget,” he said in Filipino.

“I first thought that I should ask my family first. … But because of you, this is my first time to confirm publicly that I am running as a senator, with your support,” he added.
A veteran politician, Singson served as a member of the Vigan City Council from 1963 to 1971, and was a member of the House of Representatives as the 1st district representative of Ilocos Sur from 1987 to 1992.
From 1992 to 2001, 2004 to 2007, and from 2010 to 2013, he was the governor of Ilocos Sur and later became a member of the Narvacan Municipal Council from 2016 to 2019 until he became town mayor from 2019 to 2022.
