MANILA, Philippines —  Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has emerged as the fastest internet provider in the Philippines for the second year in a row, outpacing industry mainstays PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc.

Based on its latest analysis, Ookla, the global leader in network intelligence and connectivity, gave Converge the highest speed score of 147.77 for turning in the best download and upload speeds for the first and second quarters of 2024.

This score was enough for Converge to beat PLDT’s 131.37 and Globe’s 92.11, winning the title of the fastest internet provider for the second consecutive year.

In particular, Converge recorded a top download speed of 603.46 Mbps and peak upload speed of 552.21 Mbps. PLDT came second in both measures, registering a best download speed of 411.31 Mbps and a maximum upload speed of 416.57 Mbps.

On top of this, Converge posted the lowest latency of four milliseconds, outperforming PLDT’s six ms and Globe’s eight ms. Latency measures the amount of time needed for data to be transferred between one place and another.

Moreover, Ookla found Converge as the fastest internet provider in key areas, particularly Metro Manila, Central Visayas and Davao Region.

However, Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said the internet service provider (ISP) is far from done, as it plans to invest in more infrastructure to stay ahead of competitors.

“We will not rest on our laurels of course and we will continue to stay ahead as we leap into the future,” Uy said.

Converge chief operations officer Jesus Romero said the company is leaning on its subscription to new subsea cables to strengthen its network backbone and cater to future demand. Converge is a party to the Bifrost Cable System and Southeast Asia-Hainan-Hong Kong Cable System, both of which will connect Asia-Pacific economies.

Apart from this, Romero said Converge is investing in artificial intelligence and data centers, as it prepares to take on additional demand from individuals and enterprises. Converge is aspiring to make the jump from simply an ISP, to a tech innovator.

Financially, Converge is also winning, raising its net income by 23 percent to P5.29 billion in the first semester, from P4.29 billion a year ago.

As of June, Converge serves a subscriber base of 2.35 million, adding about 380,000 customers over the past 12 months on growing demand for its low-cost products.
