The Japanese Embassy in Manila has donated $42,200 to the local government of Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte meant to buy an ambulance to boost healthcare services to the residents.

Nishimura Tokiko, second secretary of the Japanese Embassy, turned over the fund to Padre Burgos Mayor Hermenegildo Culpa.

Padre Burgos was reportedly using only one ambulance to respond to medical emergencies and disasters.

But due to excessive use and lack of proper maintenance, the vehicle has bogged down, necessitating immediate replacement..

Nishimura expressed hopes that the new ambulance would enhance the capabilities of both the Rural Health Unit and the community hospital in providing daily services and emergency response during and after calamities.
