Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. said the alliance between the Philippines and the United States has a very bright future.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the AFP said Brawner and Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) chief Admiral Samuel John Paparo Jr. had a meeting in Baguio City.
“Today’s meeting is one of the major activities which the Philippines and the U.S. conduct bilaterally,” Brawner said in his closing remarks during the Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board (MDB-SEB) meeting with the US.
“Throughout the years we progress a lot, and I can say that the future between the Philippines-U.S. alliance through the USINDOPACOM is very bright,” he added.
According to the AFP, this year’s meeting covered the enhancing of joint training exercises, defense capability, maritime security cooperation, and other areas of shared interest.
The MDB-SEB meeting concluded with the Philippines and US reaffirming their shared commitment to rules-based international order, freedom of navigation, as well as regional security and stability.
For the AFP, the annual meeting serves as a vital mechanism for advancing the mutual defense and security interests of the two countries.
The MDB-SEB meeting is an annual bilateral engagement between the AFP and USINDOPACOM to tackle mutual defense concerns, military cooperation, and security partnership. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
