The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) closed down a language training center in Silang, Cavite for illegally deploying nearly 200 of its students to Germany.
In a statement, the DMW said the Volant Academy for Language Excellence, Inc. (VALEI) was shut down because it has no permit from the government to legally recruit and deploy Filipino students abroad.
The department also said that before they are deployed abroad, the applicants will have to pay P515,900 worth of processing, language training, and practical job training fees.
The VALEI—located in Barangay Lumil, Silang, Cavite—was shut down by the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) in coordination with the municipality of Silang and local police for illegally recruiting their students to the European country as nurses, caregivers, auto mechanics, bakers, butchers, restaurant and security workers with a promise of P60,000 monthly salary.
The DMW said that applicants are required to undergo a dual training program, which combines vocational education with on-the-job training for a company.
Then, they need to pass German language levels A1 to B2 training and practical job training for eight months, after which they will be given a full-time job in Germany.
Using student visas, the applicants will then be sent to Germany and will work part-time for their employers while studying at the same time.
Once the students complete the three-year apprenticeship program, they will receive a German diploma and a full-time job offer from the employer, the DMW said.
