MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake took place Wednesday morning in Quezon province, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake, which happened at about 7:16 a.m. some 43 kilometers northeast of Jomalig, was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of one kilometer.

The agency said Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte while Intensity 3 was fel in Mauban, Guinayamangan, Alabat and General Nakar, Quezon; Daet, Camarines Norte; and Tinambac, Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, Intensity 2 was recorded over Dingalan, Aurora; Gumaca, Lopez, Malanday and Calauag, Quezon; Sagnay, Pasacao and Ragay, Camarines Sur; Los Banos, Laguna; Marikina City; and Tagaytay City, Cavite.

Phivolcs said Intensity 1 was recorded in Dolores and Lucban, Quezon; Calamba City, Laguna; Boac, Marinduque; Iriga, Camarines Sur; Antipolo City and Tanay, Rizal; San Rafael and Marilao, Bulacan; Tabaco, Albay; and Pasig City and Caloocan City, Metro Manila.

While aftershocks are likely, damage to infrastructure, however,is not expected from the latest tremor, Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said.
