MANILA, Philippines — The local theater scene is mourning the death of beloved pooch Deevo who played Murlock in the recent production “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical.”

Newport World Resorts Musicals, which helped stage the production, announced the passing of Deevo on its official Facebook account.

“We are deeply saddened to say farewell to our beloved Deevo, who brought so much joy and life to ‘Buruguduystunstugudunstuy’ as Murlock,” the social media post read. “Our thoughts and sympathies to everyone who loved Deevo.”

Social media users and fans of the musical began sharing their condolences, many of them stating that Deevo was their favorite part of the show, which was already filled with highlights.

Murlock is the pet dog of Kyle Napuli’s Aiza, one of the four lead female characters who are transported to a different dimension.

In the alternate dimension, Murlock is played by Jules dela Paz, friends with Boo Gabunada’s Buloy — both names are taken from Parokya ni Edgar’s first-ever hit song “Buloy” based on a close friend of the band who took his own life.

Coincidentally, Murlock in the song “Buloy” also dies, as seen in the lyric “Hoy, hoy, Buloy, naalala mo pa ba? Nung araw na nadedo ang aso mong si Murlock?”

Full House Theater Production have expressed its intent to stage “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical” again in the future, but for now, the company is working on a musical based on the songs by Jonathan Manalo.
