(UPDATES) THE Makabayan Bloc is “studying” the possibility of filing an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte for “betrayal of public trust.”
They cited the Commission on Audit’s notice of disallowance issued to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) over the use of her confidential funds in 2022.
Speaking to reporters during a forum in San Juan on Friday, Makabayan co-chair and former Gabriela representative Liza Maza said that they are talking to their lawyers on the possibility of filing a case due to Sara’s demeanor during the hearings on the proposed budget for 2025.

“We are discussing that; we are consulting with our lawyers and with our members,” Maza said.
On VP Sara’s demeanor, Maza said that for the first time, she saw a highly placed government official act “like a brat” during a congressional hearing.
“Hindi dapat tayo nagmamalaki, at nililinaw natin sa public na kung paano tayo nago-govern, paano natin ginagasta ‘yung pondo (She has no right to brag, and we should be clear on how we should govern and spend public funds). They [the public] have the right to know,” Maza said.
She said that Duterte’s refusal to answer how her P125 million confidential fund was spent, the underutilization of funds in the Department of Education, coupled with her “bratty” attitude toward lawmakers and her arrogance, could be a basis for the ground of betrayal of public trust, adding that Sara acted in a conduct unbecoming of a public official.
