MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte joined the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) in ceremonies on Thursday.
Former president Rodrigo Duterte, who heads the PDP, swore in his youngest son in Davao City in the presence of Senators Ronald dela Rosa and Robinhood Padilla.
Sebastian’s move came at a time when almost all PDP members have bolted the party and joined the administration’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, headed by President Marcos.
The former president has seen the PDP membership shrink to only a handful, among them his longtime aide Sen. Bong Go who is running for reelection next year along with Dela Rosa and Padilla.
There are reports that Sebastian Duterte may run for the Senate in the May 2025 polls while the former president would run for mayor of Davao City.
Sebastian’s elder brother, Paolo, is also set to run for reelection as Davao City first district representative.
Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to seek the presidency in the 2028 general elections.
