MANILA, Philippines — The Senate for the second time cited dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo in contempt for not cooperating with the senators’ inquiry on her real identity as she insisted that she “is Filipino.”

The Senate first cited her in contempt for refusing to attend the probe on her alleged link to illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators. That citation was extinguished with her attendance in the hearing.

Guo, who is under police custody, was brought to the Senate on Monday to attend the inquiry on her escape from the country in the middle of July.

She said “no Filipino” helped her escape. She was arrested by Indonesian police on Sept. 4 and was deported to the country on Sept. 5.

The public hearing was jointly conducted by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality with the Committee on Migrant Workers and Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

Guo repeatedly denied that she is Chinese under the name “Guo Hua Ping.”

“I move to cite Guo Hua Ping also known as Alice Guo in contempt of the Senate for testifying falsely and evasively before this committee,” said Sen. Risa Hontiveros, chairman of the Senate Committee on Women.

Senators Joseph Victor Ejercito and Joel Villanueva seconded Hontiveros’ motion.

“You will remain in the custody of the Senate until the conclusion of this committee’s inquiry or until you finally recognize the authority of this body and grant a semblance of respect by the laws of this country,” Hontiveros told Guo.
