MANILA, Philippines — Teenagers are engaging in sexual activity as a “monthsary” gift to their partners, the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) said yesterday.
Parents should openly communicate with their children about sex, acting CPD Knowledge Management and Communications Division chief Mylin Mirasol Quiray said.
“Sex education should start as early as we can and as simple as we can. Just teaching them about good touch and bad touch is (already) sexuality education. This is important so that the youth will not be abused,” Quiray said.
“They will know if a touch is inappropriate. There is a need to teach them to protect themselves,” she added.
Based on the CPD’s research, teens are gifting sex to their partners monthly since they “don’t have something material to give.”
