(UPDATES) TENEMENT buildings in a residential area in Tondo, Manila, were gutted by a fire that broke out Saturday noon.Responders from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office said the blaze began at about 11:44 a.m., gutting Buildings 27 and 23 along Aroma Road in Tondo.Meanwhile, the Philippine Red Cross also reported that a blaze occurred in Building 9 along the same street.The fire was raised to first alarm a minute after it broke out. At 12:24 p.m., Task Force Alpha was declared, with Task Force Bravo being readied at about 12:33 p.m. As of 6:23 p.m., firefighters declared the fire under control.
Elsewhere in Tondo, another fire incident was reported along Mayhaligue St. at about 2:23 p.m.As of this writing, no casualties were reported from the Saturday fire incidents.Meanwhile, the city government of Manila has provided food and temporary shelter to at least 1,000 families affected by the fire that engulfed a residential area in Tondo.In a statement, Mayor Honey Lacuña said the affected residents are in three evacuation centers — Barangay 106 covered court, Barangay 105 covered court, and Vicente Lim Elementary School.”Departments in the city hall swiftly responded to assist the affected residents,” she said in a statement.Lacuña pledged to deliver food and other basic needs to the victims at the evacuation centers.Lacuña and Vice Mayor Yul Servo personally witnessed the disaster response operation of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer and the City Social Welfare and Development.with a report from PNA
