MALOLOS — Bulacan residents yesterday commemorated the 126th anniversary of the Malolos Congress at the historic ground of the Barasoain Church in this city.
The opening of the Malolos Congress on Sept. 15, 1898 paved the way for the establishment of the Republic of the Philippines, known as the first republic in Asia.
Gov. Daniel Fernando said the legacy of Bulacan reminds every one that a strong republic was built on the foundations of freedom, justice and sovereignty.
Fernando said people should continue to fight for this legacy.
The event also marked the culmination of the week-long celebration of the Singkaban Festival, known as the mother of all festivals in Bulacan.
