MANILA, Philippines — No tropical cyclone has been monitored in the next 24 hours but the state-run weather agency is looking at cloud clusters which may develop into a low pressure area (LPA) in the coming days.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that an enhanced southwest monsoon locally known as “habagat” would prevail in many areas in Luzon and the Visayas.
In fact, the Pagasa forecaster said, a yellow rainfall warning has been raised over the provinces of Bataan and Zambales in Region 3 or Central Luzon.
According to the state weather bureau, a yellow advisory means monitoring weather and possible flooding, orange means residents should be alert for possible evacuation and expected flooding and red means severe flooding is expected and residents should evacuate.
Occasional rains are be likely over Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Occidental Mindoro, and Northern Palawan while scattered downpours will be experienced over Metro Manila, Abra, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Antique, Iloilo, and the rest of Palawan and Ilocos Region due to habagat.
The same weather system is also affecting the rest of Luzon and Visayas where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms would prevail.
Mindanao will experience localized thunderstorms within 24 hours, Pagasa’s 5 a.m. advisory said.
