2 men allegedly involved in dog meat trade arrested in Bulacan

Two men were arrested by authorities in Paombong, Bulacan for their alleged involvement in the dog meat trade. 

According to a report in “Saksi” on Thursday, the suspects were caught in the act by the operatives from the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) and the Animal Kingdom Foundation. 

Four dogs that have been placed inside sacks were rescued during the operation. 

The suspects will face charges related to violation of the  Animal Welfare Act of 1998 and the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.

According to the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, anyone involved in animal cruelty could be imprisoned for up to two years and/or fined P100,000.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 provides that pet owners who fail or refuse to have their dog registered and immunized against rabies shall be penalized with a P2,000 fine. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
