MANILA, Philippines — With the arraignment reset to September 30, a Valenzuela City trial court judge allowed dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo to post bail amounting to P540, 0000.
Judge Elena Amigo-Amano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 282 postponed Friday’s arraignment, citing a pending motion to quash information filed by her defense lawyers against two counts of graft that were filed in Capas, Tarlac.
The judge gave the prosecution panel time to submit its position paper regarding Guo’s motion.
During Friday’s supposed arraignment, the custody issue was raised as the judge initially ruled to detain Guo at the Valenzuela jail.
But her counsels insisted that she be detained at the custodial facility of the Philippine National Police, citing security reasons.
This prompted defense lawyers to offer bail instead in a bid to avoid Guo being committed to the Valenzuela jail.
After several hours, Guo’s camp managed to provide the bail amount, which was tripled as requested by the prosecution, citing Guo’s high-profile status.
Guo would be reportedly brought to the Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City for medical examination before being brought to the Pasig City jail following a commitment order for her non-bailable qualified human trafficking case.
