The Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality lifted on Tuesday the contempt citation it previously raised on Shiela Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo.
In line with this development, the committee chaired by Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros instructed the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) to transfer Shiela under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Shiela was cited in contempt in connection with her earlier absence at the Senate inquiry into the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). She escaped with Guo sometime in July. Both were apprehended by immigration and law enforcement authorities in Indonesia.
The Guos were present on Tuesday during the resumption of the senators’ public hearing on POGOs. The sisters are facing various charges for violating immigration laws in connection with their family businesses that are allegedly involved in illegal activities.
