National Police Commission (Napolcom) Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo has been cited in contempt at the seventh joint public hearing by the House Quad Committee for allegedly lying under oath.

Abang Lingkod party-list Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano, chairperson of the House Committee on Public Accounts, made the motion after Leonardo denied a meeting happened between him and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) senior Superintendent Gerardo Padilla.

Paduano said Leonardo was evading questions and lying in the committee. Both the Napolcom and BuCor officials were invited at the congressional inquiry in connection with the extrajudicial killings that happened during the anti-drugs campaign of then President Rodrigo Duterte.

Lead chairperson Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs approved the motion. The lawmakers also moved to hold Leonardo in detention at the Batasan Pambansa premises until further notice upon the recommendation of Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop.
