OPM folk-country singer Coritha passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, due to existing illnesses, according to her partner, Chito Santos. She was 73. 

In an interview with broadcaster Julius Babao, Santos said that the singer had endured a lot until she became weak and took her last breath.

“We watched over her for days until she grew weaker and weaker. I didn’t want it to drag on because she would just suffer more,” Santos said.  

“It’s better this way than seeing her in pain. It was too hard. She had become so thin. She fought, but eventually, she just stopped breathing. But I saw how much she was struggling. I couldn’t bear it anymore,” he continued.

Santos also added that Coritha, whose real name is Socorro Avelino, had been bedridden after suffering a stroke. Coritha is known for her hit songs such as “Oras Na” and “Lolo Jose.”
