The Kapamilya series “Zoomers” has maintained a solid following since its launch in January, and continues to thrive into its second season, which premiered last July. It drew in viewers with its authentic portrayal of Gen Z struggles and familiar themes like the challenges of friendship and pursuing dreams.

Throughout the series, the viewers witnessed the growth of the cast, from auditioning hopefuls to becoming the lead stars. Last September 5, the digital youth-oriented series was honored as the Best Asian Short Form Drama Series at the Content Asia Awards in Taipei, Taiwan. The show’s creative producer, director Theodore Boborol proudly accepted the award.
During Star Magic’s Spotlight press conference, Boborol, together with the main cast of “Zoomers” Harvey Bautista, Krystl Ball, Ralph de Leon, Luke Alford, and Criza Taa celebrated their win and shared experiences from working on the series.
“Who would have thought. Because we’re supposedly just an online show and newcomers. And then suddenly, we won Best Asian Short-Form Series. I feel pride for the creative team, for the directors, and the cast, and I’m hoping that this award will inspire them, that there is no small or big project. Just put your heart into it, and you will get noticed, you will get noticed,” said Boborol enthused.
Bautista, known for his time on “Goin’ Bulilit,” took on the role of Jiggs in “Zoomers.”
He said of the win, “There are no small projects. Zoomers is a very small family, so it’s admirable for us that we were able to win such a big award.”
“I’m very proud of this cast and for me it’s still very overwhelming. It’s still very scary for me getting all the attention that I’m not used to. But I’m still grateful for the opportunities that have come for me this year.” Bautista, who also starred in “Pamilya Sagrado” and “High Street” continued.
Taa, also a key member of the “Zoomers” main cast, portrayed the character Hope. She plays the lead role alongside Bautista, who portrays her love interest in the series.
“It’s super overwhelming because this is our first lead role, and we already won an award. It feels amazing, but at the same time, it’s also a bit of pressure because the recognition is huge, so we have to do even better in our future projects. But we’re super grateful and thankful, especially to those who believed in us behind the camera, like Direk Lauren [Dyogi], Direk Ted, and Direk Chad [Vidanes], because they were the first people who believed in and trusted us,” Taa said.
The series also introduces fresh faces to the spotlight. Making her acting debut, Krystl Ball portrays the character Tania. She is part of a compelling Girls’ Love storyline alongside fellow Star Magic artist Kei Kurosawa.
Ball shared her thoughts about her experience with this project, “I was really struggling with the script, everything. I even asked my classmates for help because I had no experience at all. But of course, I saw my improvements with my Tagalog, acting, and facial expressions. I’m hoping for my next project, and I’ll be more confident, and hopefully, I get to play roles other than what I played in Zoomers.”
Zoomers also introduces Ralph de Leon, a multi-talented athlete, model, host, and actor, who takes on the role of Atom in the series.
“Just being able to bring my real-life experiences as someone who always pressured myself to achieve a lot—it was kind of therapeutic when I was able to express that in the scenes. So, it was a great experience,” de Leon stated.
Luke Alford, another member of the main cast, plays the cheerful character Kokoy. He first gained recognition on “The Voice Kids” and “PBB: Kumunity Season 10.” Since then, he has steadily been expanding his acting credits.
“It’s pressure because it’s now part of our portfolio. We have to do better, focus more on our craft, on how we can excel in acting, performing, and even influencing other people,” Alford said when asked about their next step after their win.
“Zoomers” boasts a talented team both behind and in front of the camera, making their recent win a well-deserved achievement.
