PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said he has two candidates for the next secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Chief Executive, however, declined to disclose their names.
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos is expected to file his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for senator for next year’s national elections.

“Let’s leave Secretary Abalos be for now. … I don’t want him to feel that we are already pushing him out … especially that he has done such a good job at the DILG,” Marcos said in an interview following the inauguration of the STBattalion Giga Factory in Capas, Tarlac.
“So, once he files (his candidacy), we will also announce his replacement,” the President said.
Abalos is one of the 12 senatorial bets running under the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition, which Marcos unveiled last week.
The DILG chief earlier said he has “two weeks left at most” before he vacates his post.
Under the guidelines of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), appointive officials who filed their CoCs will be immediately deemed resigned from their posts.
On the other hand, incumbent elective officials who will run for an elective position need not resign.
