Ayala Museum extends loan of pre-colonial treasures to Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Ayala Museum announced that it will extend the loan of two pre-colonial treasures from its permanent collection to the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

First displayed at the Louvre Abu Dhabi in June 2022, the two gold artifacts — a funerary mask from Butuan, Agusan del Norte, and a cup from Nabua, Camarines Sur — are part of Ayala Museum’s permanent exhibition, Gold of Ancestors: Pre-Colonial Gold from the Philippines.

Initially loaned to the Louvre Abu Dhabi to celebrate the museum’s fifth anniversary, these artifacts were the first archaeological items from a Southeast Asian museum to be displayed there. They are currently showcased in the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Grand Vestibule, part of its World Civilizations Collection.

“The gold funerary mask from Butuan, Agusan del Norte, and the golden cup from Nabua, Camarines Sur will remain on display, offering a unique glimpse into our rich cultural history,” the Ayala Museum’s announcement read.

The pre-colonial gold treasures will be on display at the Louvre Abu Dhabi until June 30, 2025.
