Former Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta has officially filed his candidacy for the lone congressional seat to represent the city.
“Malabonians have welcomed my return to public service, and I am committed to giving back to them in the best way possible… I’m proud of my track record in public service, and it’s incredibly heartening to feel the warmth and support from my fellow Malabonians once again,” Oreta said.
In addition to his mayoral term, Oreta has also served as vice mayor and councilor of Malabon. He said his administration’s achievements, particularly in public health, have prepared him to run for higher office.
The aspiring lawmaker’s key advocacies include childhood stunting, an issue he personally worked to address during his tenure.
“During my time as mayor, we made significant progress in reducing stunting rates in Malabon, and I want to take this fight to the national level. My goal is to push for legislation that mandates all cities and municipalities across the country to implement strong, effective nutrition programs that protect our most vulnerable—our children,” Oreta said.
The longtime public servant outlined his broader legislative agenda, focusing on the health sector. He seeks additional funding for third-level hospitals, to promote regular health checkups for all Malabonians, and to expand health benefits, including maternity cash assistance and the establishment of specialty hospitals for seniors.
Outside of his health-related initiatives, Oreta plans to improve social services by modernizing classrooms and increasing support for colleges, prioritizing funding for socialized housing, and enhancing flood control measures.
