The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) marked World Heart Day 2024 on Sept. 29 with a public awareness campaign on cardiovascular health, a leading cause of death in the Philippines and globally.

PHA President Dr.  Rodney Jimenez  highlighted the importance of heart care to prevent ischemic heart diseases, which can lead to broader organ damage.

Department of Health Secretary  Teodoro Herbosa  emphasized this year’s theme, “Use Heart for Action,” urging concrete steps to improve heart health through strengthened primary care.

Pasig City, the event’s partner, showcased its efforts in CPR training and AED installations in public spaces. The celebration included a “Walk, Jog, Bike” challenge and a free fair offering medical services like blood pressure and cholesterol checks. The PHA also launched its new “Pusong Pinoy” lifestyle campaign to promote healthy eating, exercise, and stress management.

CPR training, Zumba, and health assessments rounded out the event aimed at reducing premature deaths from heart disease.
