The Makati City government is set to distribute P1,000 each for the 912,000 public school teachers employed by the Department of Education (DepEd) as World Teachers’ Day incentive benefit (WTDIB) on October 5, House Committee on Appropriations Rep. Luis Campos, Jr. announced on Thursday.

In a press statement, Campos said the 19th Congress earmarked P912-million to fund this measure, payable by October 5, under the 2024 General Appropriations Law.

“We are determined to sustain the annual funding for the WTDIB for our teachers. In fact, the 2025 national budget we approved last month includes another P955 million allocation for this benefit,” he said.

The WTDIB is currently provided to public school teachers every October 5, a day celebrated annually as World Teachers’ Day to honor those engaged in the teaching profession.

Congress first included the incentive benefit as an item in the 2019 General Appropriations Law with an initial funding of P800 million.

Campos has been advocating for the passage of his House Bill No. 7840, which seeks to raise the WTDIB to P3,000 per teacher.

“We must augment the value of the WTDIB and make the grant of this incentive permanent through legislation,” he said.
