Incumbent Tagum City, Davao del Norte Mayor Rey Uy and his eldest daughter Ciara Isabel Uy filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) on Thursday morning. Uy is seeking re-election while his daughter hopes to win a seat as Tagum City councilor.
Uy’s running mate, Ester Lee Angoy, accompanied them at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) satellite office in Tagum City together with their allies, who are also vying for their seats in the city council.
Should he win, Uy will be serving his second term as city mayor, while Ciara will be a newcomer in local politics. The mayor said he wants to continue his vision for Tagum City and implement more programs that would benefit his constituents.
“For my second term, we will repair and fix our drainages in the city to avoid flooding. They can expect more projects and healthy environment in Tagum City,” Uy said in an interview shortly after filing his COC.
Aside from his daughter, Uy said he is supporting the candidacies of the following as part of his City Council: Leo Revita, lawyers Meliton Lemos and Ed Mark Wakan, Lou Suaybaguio, Romeo Cayatas, engineer Jun Coquilla, Rey Aala, and Wes Caasi.
Ciara, who has been working as executive assistant of her father for three years, said she wanted to promote mental health programs and daycare centers for the city.
“I decided to join the public service because I share my father’s vision for the City. I believe I can do more if I put my ideas into action. I am young and I have so many ideas to share to improve the lives of our people in Tagum City,” she said.
Uy, meanwhile, said his son—incumbent Davao del Norte Vice Governor De Carlo ‘Oyo’ Uy—is eyeing a seat in the 20th Congress. Oyo plans to file his own COC on Saturday.
The Manila Standard gathered that incumbent Governor Edwin Jubahib will seek re-election with running mate board member Nicanor Suaybaguio. However, Jubahib indicated that their political plans remain fluid as of this writing.
