Marcos names Orbos as PTV head

(UPDATES) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former executive secretary Oscar Orbos to lead the People’s Television Network Inc. (PTV), the government’s official TV station, Malacañang said Thursday.

Orbos, who took his oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thursday, will serve as acting chairman and member of the Board of Directors for PTV, representing the private sector.

Orbos served as executive secretary and secretary of Transportation and Communications under president Corazon Aquino’s administration from 1990 to 1991.

He also served as representative for Pangasinan’s first district from 1987 to 1990 and as governor of the province from 1995 to 1998. He also co-hosted GMA Network’s “Debate with Mare at Pare” alongside economics professor Solita Monsod.

Marcos also appointed political analyst Antonio Contreras as acting vice chairman and member of the PTV Board of Directors, representing the education sector; former PTV General Manager Kat de Castro as director-general of the Philippine Information Agency; and lawyer Francis Carlo Taparan as Director 4 of the National Printing Office.

The President also named Michelle Anne Gonzales as commissioner at the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor.

Her appointment letter, dated September 27, stated that she would replace Pablo Guanco.

Gonzales was a councilor in Taguig City’s second district from 2010 to 2016.

She is the mother of National Youth Commission Commissioner-at-Large Michelle Mae Gonzales who was appointed to the post in August this year.

Meanwhile, President Marcos appointed Rommel Vallejo as Director 4 (Assistant Director) at the National Bureau of Investigation.
