Marcos meets with Vietnam’s Chinh to explore new areas of cooperation

VIENTIANE – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to elevate ties between the Philippines and Vietnam. 

During the bilateral meeting before Marcos’ meet and greet with the Filipino community, the two leaders discussed deepening economic cooperation, particularly trade and agriculture. 

“We have made a good deal of progress since our very first discussion and some of the engagements between our two countries. And I am very happy that we will be able to pursue that,” Marcos said. 

“And it gives us also the opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation and of partnership. So, thank you,” he added. 

This was his first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. Marcos will also meet with the heads of Canada, New Zealand, and Japan. 

For his part, the Vietnamese leader also reaffirmed his country’s unwavering commitment to the Philippines. 

“I want to reaffirm that we always support to the strategic partnership with the Philippines. I’m glad to note that the discussions that we began two years ago have been implemented effectively,” Prime Minister Chinh said, 

They also expressed their shared commitment to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Philippines-Vietnam Strategic Partnership in 2025 by developing collaboration in key sectors. 

Marcos also condoled the losses caused by Typhoon Yagi and the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
