A soldier allegedly killed his wife and two others inside Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela on Thursday over a “third-party relationship,” according to the police.

Based on police reports from the Police Regional Office 2 in Cagayan Valley, the alleged perpetrator was 32-year-old infantry soldier.

The deceased victims, meanwhile, were identified as his wife, mother-in-law, and driver.

Investigation showed that two soldiers inside the camp saw a passing vehicle and heard several gunshots that prompted them to get their firearms and check the vehicle.

“While approaching the vehicle, they saw the suspect with a pistol in his hand. Immediately, they restrained the suspect, commanded him to lie prone, and asked for the assistance of the duty military police to handcuff the suspect,” the police report said.

Police said the driver was dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, the alleged assailant’s mother-in-law was declared dead on arrival while his wife was passed away while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

He is now under the custody of the Gamu police.

A parricide complaint and two counts of murder are being prepared against the soldier, according to the police.

The Philippine Army on Friday expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and vowed to fully cooperate with the investigation of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“We, as a professional military organization, will not condone any wrongdoings and crimes committed by any of its personnel. We stand by our commitment to being a professional and disciplined organization that continuously strives to maintain and uphold the highest standards of conduct and integrity,” it said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
